About Us
Turkana Institute of Health and Psychological Studies (TIHPS) is a middle level training institution founded on strong belief of capacity through imparting practice knowledge and skills to spur economic and social growth. The institution evolved from Therapies of Hope a Pyschological service Center, and a CBO that has been carrying out Training , Research and Consultancy on Psychological issues.
The idea of setting up a training institution came up after research revealed a huge gap on middle level development agents in Turkana County. A huge number of qualified students are locked out of the institutions of higher learning due to limited facilities and distances from learning Institutions.
It was felt that there was a need to set up a middle level training institution to produce a skilled workforce in Health and Psychological ventures. TIHPS wants to cut a niche as a center of excellence in the training of reflective health and Psychological professionals. We want to build trust among government and other stake holders to officially recognize our work. This confidence within will make the institute attract students from the entire Eastern Africa region.
The Institute is managed by a Board of Governors who are experienced in the areas of Social work, Sociology, Community Health, Medical Education, Educational Institutions Management, Development Studies , Business Management, Human Resource Management, Psychology, Counselling , Nutrition and Environmental Health among others.
TIHPS is an examination Centre for KNEC. The Institution offers Certificate and Diploma courses in Community Development, Social Work and Welfare, Project Management, Nutrition and Dietetics, Community Health and Counseling among others. A number of short courses and consultancy services are available.

Our Strengths
TIHPS offers well tailored courses at Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Level. The courses are all responsive to correct community problems. They are practical oriented and they prepare the students to be able to initiate action oriented projects both at self level or in employment.
TIHPS believes that if people are empowered, they can make an immense contribution to social and economic development. It is our agenda to train people at all levels on relevant areas. We believe that Health and development is a partnership that calls for everybody to get involved. Our trainees are prepared to get involved in a special way.

To ensure quality to all our clients the institution has put in place strict control measures which include-:
